Etsy’s holiday trend report offers a sneak preview of what items are predicted to be most popular this year, based on search upticks that are already happening.

From the joys of “dopamine gifting” to the eclectic nostalgia of kitchen kitsch, these are the top six trends set to dominate gift-giving this year.

Even if you’re not keen to get out on the slopes, the sporty chic style of skiing getaways is appealing as temperatures cool off. According to Etsy, the site has seen a 183% increase in searches for knit balaclavas, as well as a 163% increase in searches for puffer bags.

Think of après ski as a blend of this summer’s coastal grandma decor, and athleisure that made a major comeback in the pandemic. The outdoorsy yet cozy vibe is bound to be a hit with the adventurous ones on your list.

As the pandemic drove millions of people into their homes, decor trends that reflect and celebrate the natural world became wildly popular. Even as the world opens up again, Etsy found that shoppers are eager to continue incorporating whimsical bits of nature to their homes in a “fantasy-meets-reality forest aesthetic.”

The site has seen a 188% increase in searches for nature-inspired home decor, which lines up with popular aesthetics like cottagecore and goblincore. To get the enchanted forest look, indulge in rich tones (like Etsy’s Color of the Year, emerald green), iridescent items reminiscent of moths and other insects, velvet and faux fur accents, and metallic trims.

Over the years, Etsy has become a popular marketplace for vintage sellers, who offer their wares to modern shoppers looking to emulate certain design aesthetics. Recently, kitschy, retro kitchen accessories have come back into style — think patterned mugs, old-fashioned cookie jars, and bright, cheerful colors all-around.

This year, Etsy has seen an 85% increase in searches for vintage mixing bowls, and a 26% increase in searches for retro decor. If it looks at home in your grandma’s kitchen, then you know you’re on the right track!

After the uncertainty of the last few years, it’s no surprise that bright, vibrant-colored products have seen an uptick in popularity this year. According to Etsy, the site has seen a whopping 346% increase in disco ball decor, as well as an 86% increase in searches for vibrant art.

“This playful and mood-boosting holiday aesthetic represents a fresh start, reminding us to celebrate in ways that bring us happiness, and to spread cheer well beyond the new year,” this year’s Holiday Trend Guide reads.

Remember the dopamine dressing trend, which prioritizes bright, happy colors that boost your mood? Well, these merry and bright items are dopamine gifting personified. So go ahead and buy that blob decor or those bright orange earrings — they’ll thank you later.

After a rocky few years, it’s no surprise that shoppers are eager for products associated with healing and introspection. New Age practices like tarot, astrology, and moon phase tracking have all grown in popularity. On Etsy, for example, there’s been a 338% increase in searches for aura art. So whether the people on your list are skilled tarot card readers or just starting to learn about their astrological charts, consider tapping into those spiritual practices this holiday season.

The recent pearlcore trend has revitalized the timeless beauty of the iconic gemstone. Etsy reports that there has been a 44% increase in searches for pearl shoes, as well as a 44% increase in searches for pearl bags and purses.

In a welcome twist, this pearlcore uptick has also led to innovations in how pearls are utilized around the home. Pearly, iridescent tones are becoming increasingly popular in homeware and festive decor, adding timeless elegance that’s perfect for gift-giving.
