Virginia Tech graduates work to convert college bus into residence

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – On a chilly winter’s working day at Smith Mountain Lake, boats are not docked. Most are saved quite a few yards absent near to wherever design is taking place on a different mode of transportation, and quickly-to-be residence.

Lauren, his wife, is the design specialist.

”It’s a 2005 global school bus from Loudoun County, Virginia, and we received it back in November of 2019,” reported Lauren.

Jointly their dream is to vacation the country with their bus, affectionately named “Big Shirley.”

”We absolutely required to be on the street by September. Coronavirus threw a wrench in that, but we’re again completely functioning, we appear out each night functioning, accomplishing some thing and each and every weekend we’re listed here comprehensive time,” stated Lauren.

Time is something Large Shirley has taken a great deal of: from ripping out the seats, painting about vivid yellow to an earthy environmentally friendly, and constructing things like a kitchen, shower and bedroom, the few, nicknamed the “Wandering Weinmeisters,” still has about 3 months of get the job done in advance of them.

”We have our kitchen area. The faucet isn’t put in yet but Nik did install the sink. Almost everything will have a matte black finish.”

The current challenge is a deck, along with continual education about faculty bus dwelling.

”Ideally this is our home, we hope to head out west with it, and obtain some home and just type of make our individual roots, but we might conclusion up loving somewhere on the east coastline,” said Lauren.
